Karla

Germany, 1962: Twelve-year-old Karla runs away from home and seeks help at a police station. She stands up to her father’s authority, the silence of her family, and a society that would rather look the other way than listen. She decides to file a criminal complaint against her father for sexual abuse. Despite the obstacles, mistrust and pressure from those around her, Karla does not back down and continues to stand by her truth. She files a lawsuit and gradually brings about more change than she could ever have imagined. In the experienced judge Lamy, she finds someone who believes her and is willing to accompany her on this difficult journey.

The film is inspired by a real court case and tells a powerful story of a young girl’s courage to stand up for herself and break the silence, thereby giving a voice to others who have gone through similar experiences.
