Woman at War

Woman at War

DIRECTOR Benedikt Erlingsson
SCRIPT Benedikt Erlingsson, Ólafur Egilsson

Is sabotaging high-voltage power lines or adopting a Ukrainian orphan the better way to save the world? This question is explored by a quirky “Zen terrorist” in Benedikt Erlingsson’s juicy, ironic, beautifully shot, and delightfully scored film, which—much like his short story-based film *Of Horses and Men*—delves into the endearing traits of Icelandic individualism. Halla, a woman in her fifties, is a seemingly respectable teacher and choir director, but beneath her calm exterior lies more than meets the eye. This tough and uncompromising woman leads a double life—she’s waging a private war against the industrial giants who are destroying the Icelandic landscape. The island’s most wanted woman, bow in hand, grapples with a dilemma many of us face: how can we do our part to prevent an ecological and social catastrophe?
