The Other Side of Summer

Fifteen-year-old Bětka and her best friend Alma are spending a lazy summer at a cottage by a pond. More than anything, they want to get to a party at a beach bar on the opposite shore. But Bětka's older sister Marie, who is in charge of the girls, refuses to let them go. The hot days drag on until Alma meets Aneta, a mysterious girl who has discovered a strange pool on an island in the middle of the pond. It is said to be able to transport people anywhere in the world. Alma doesn't hesitate and decides to dive in, hoping to end up somewhere better. But does such a place even exist? And what is the price for doing so? This mysterious film by director Vojtěch Strakatý about growing up, girlhood friendships, and the endless desire to escape elsewhere had its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Proxima competition section.
