Prague in the 16th century: the Emperor wants to expel the Jewish population from the city. In order to avert the impending disaster for the inhabitants of the Jewish ghetto, Rabbi Löw creates the mythical clay figure of the Golem and brings it to life using black magic. The Golem saves the Emperor's life, causing him to rescind his decree out of gratitude. Through a series of unfortunate circumstances, the Golem turns against its creator and unleashes chaos. THE GOLEM: HOW HE CAME INTO THE WORLD was Paul Wegener's third film adaptation of the Jewish legend. It was one of the most artistically and financially successful German silent film productions, whose exceptional expressionist imagery and sets lost none of their evocative impact. The constructions devised by Hans Poelzig were absolutely groundbreaking for film set design. To this day, this film is still considered highly inspirational in the horror genre. The film was made as a prequel to the 1915 film DER GOLEM.
