Copenhagen, 1918. The euphoria of the end of the war is fading fast, and the world continues to be crushed by inequality and poverty. Karoline, a poor textile worker, is left alone – her husband is lost at the front, and a brief romance with the factory manager ends in disappointment. At the bottom of her despair, she meets Dagmar, a woman who is the only one to show kindness. But behind her kind mask, something terrifying may be lurking. Director Magnus von Horn has made a drama of horror proportions that turns into a nightmare about the limits of good and evil. After screening at Cannes, Toronto and Karlovy Vary, The Girl with the Needle received an Oscar nomination for Best International Film.
