The Gardener's Year

A gardener (Oldřich Kaiser) and his wife live at the foot of a picturesque hill, tending to their small garden. Their idyllic life is disrupted when a new owner settles in a nearby castle and wants to transform the landscape. When the gardening hinders his plans, a series of bizarre events are set in motion. First, the new owner creates a razor wire fence and closes off the driveway. Gradually, he increases the intensity of his actions to achieve his goals. However, the gardener does not give up and tries to defend his home. As the police and the mayor gradually drown in their own bureaucracy, the gardener decides to take his fate into his own hands. Jiří Havelka's new film, teetering on the edge of bizarre, absurd and tragicomedy, is inspired by a true story and the literary work of the same name by Karel Čapek.
