New York, 23rd century. The Earth is threatened with destruction by a giant fireball that is inexorably approaching. Priest Vito Cornelius (Ian Holm) knows that only the fifth element can prevent destruction – an ancient force that can unite the four basic elements: air, water, fire, and earth.
