The film represents in 1913 on the occasion of the 100th Birthday of "the great master" for the first time a comprehensive portrait of the composer. For copyright reasons Richard Wagner's original compositions could not be used for the score. Giuseppe Becce who plays the role of Richard Wagner because of his outward similarity, suggested to compose a score that establishes a clear link to the works of Richard Wagner, however, so different from him that no legal consequences could be feared.
