Public Space of František Skála

Public Space of František Skála

DIRECTOR Petr Slavík
SCRIPT Petr Slavík

On a playful journey through public spaces with František Skála, one of the most versatile Czech artists, you can see the world in a different light. With humor, seriousness, and self-irony, the visual artist, performer, and musician offers a unique glimpse into many imaginary doors, behind which lie beauty in imperfection, poetry in the ordinary, handprints in the passage of time, and the joy of creation as a way of life. Skála’s creative energy is palpable throughout the process of creating the monumental sculpture of a dog, Vulpes Gott—from the creation of the model to the boat journey down the Elbe River to the opening in Dresden. The narrative weaves together the artist’s diaries and objects in public spaces, including his first sculpture in the Veltrusy Castle Park, Prastánek, and the Garden of Eden in Sluňákov. The film features František Skála’s friends, the band Třaskavá směs, the Provodovjané brass band, and philosopher Miroslav Petříček. Skála, a Renaissance man, is also known for his work at the Divadlo Sklep, the art group Tvrdohlaví, the band Tros Sketos, and M.T.O. Universal.
