Nuremberg

DIRECTOR James Vanderbilt
SCRIPT James Vanderbilt

After the end of World War II, for the first time in history, the world faces the question of how to judge evil in such a form. In the ruins of Nazi Germany, the first international trial in history begins – the Nuremberg Tribunal. Young American military psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Rami Malek) arrives in the city to examine the mental state of Nazi leaders, including Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe) himself. What was supposed to be a routine examination turns into an unexpectedly personal confrontation with power, evil, and his own belief in humanity. Kelley becomes increasingly fascinated by his prisoner's intelligence and charisma, and the more he delves into his psyche, the more he begins to question the line between monster and man. Meanwhile, the courtroom comes alive with the greatest story of justice in the 20th century—the trial led by Chief Prosecutor Robert Jackson (Michael Shannon), which forever changed international law and our view of guilt and responsibility. Director James Vanderbilt bases his suspenseful historical drama not only on authentic transcripts of court hearings, but also on the inner conflict of a man who finds himself face to face with incomprehensible evil. NUREMBERG is a powerful, suspenseful, and deeply human film about how the truth can be as terrifying as it is liberating.
