Nightborn

Saga (Seidi Haarla) and her British husband Jon (Rupert Grint) share a dream of the perfect family in the perfect place. So they move into the house where Saga spent her childhood, which stands isolated in the deep Finnish forests. As soon as their son is born, Saga begins to suspect that something is wrong with him, that something strange is happening. Everyone around her assures her that she must be mistaken, but she gradually succumbs to fear and begins to suspect a terrifying truth about her child. Director Hanna Bergholm’s film is a dark horror story about motherhood, weaving together Norse mythology and horror. It explores how profoundly the birth of a child can transform our relationships and our very sense of self. The protagonist is subjected to doubt, utter exhaustion, but also unconditional maternal love. The film stars Seidi Haarla and Rupert Grint, known from the Harry Potter series. NIGHTBORN continues the tradition of modern Nordic horror, combining psychological tension, physical horror, and a powerful human story about how thin the line between love and fear can be.
