As the country prepares for war, its ruling family falls apart. Prince Hamlet is forced to avenge his father's death, but this task paralyses him. His rage at the impossibility of the complex situation in which he finds himself threatens his sanity and the security of the state. Benedict Cumberbatch excels in the lead role. The production is directed by Lyndsey Turner, winner of the Olivier Award for directing the play Chimerica. The performance, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, was recorded for the NT Live series at London's Barbican Centre on October 15, 2015.
