Les Misérables

Stéphane is a recent addition to a special police unit in a Paris suburb. He and his experienced colleagues, Chris and Gwada, quickly notice increased tension between neighboring gangs. When the three-man team gets into a tight spot when making an arrest, one of the gangs has a drone there ready to record their every move... Inspired by the unrest in Paris in 2005, the film is set in contemporary Montfermeil – the same place where Victor Hugo’s famous misérables rose up. Now, more than 150 years later, the similarity of today’s angry youths in hoodies to Hugo’s Gavroch is more than obvious… This phenomenal debut by director Ladj Ly won the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes festival.
