A visit that will change the whole family’s life. Director Sophie Hyde (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) presents a highly timely story about love, empathy, and the strength of family bonds. Hannah (Olivia Colman) and her non-binary teenage daughter Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde) fly to Amsterdam to visit Hannah’s eccentric father (John Lithgow), who is living life to the fullest there. The daughter harbors resentment toward her father, as he left them when she was only 13. He admitted he was gay and needed to focus more on himself than on his family in order to find his true self. And just as her grandfather was searching for himself years ago, his granddaughter is now searching for herself—so enchanted by Amsterdam that she decides to stay there for the entire next year. Hannah must decide what is more important to her—worrying about her own child or her child’s happiness.
