Rio de Janeiro, 1970s. Against the backdrop of a growing military dictatorship, the Paiva family leads an idyllic life. Rubens, a former MP, lives with his wife Eunice and their five children in a house by the beach, which is constantly filled with joyful visitors. Love and humor serve as their own form of defense in a dark chapter of Brazilian history. One day, however, repression irrevocably affects their family, and Eunice is forced to seek a new future for herself and her children. This heartbreaking story, based on Marcel Rubens Paiva's memoir, earned three Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Picture.
