I'm Not Everything I Want to Be

Libuše Jarcovjáková is a legend of world photography and an unbridled woman who has defied all conventions. Her life is a mosaic of fascinating encounters and wild stories – from the rough underground of communist Czechoslovakia, to exclusive photo shoots for fashion leaders in Tokyo, to her dramatic escape to West Berlin, where she witnessed the fall of the Iron Curtain. Thousands of analogue photographs and pages of personal diaries were turned into a formally unique documentary directed by Klára Tasovská, which thrilled the audience at the Berlinale.

Come and see an original portrait of photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková. This dynamic combination of a rich photo archive and diary entries of a woman living through her years of normalization has received 5 nominations for the Czech Film Critics Award. It has outgrown the documentary category – in addition to it, it is also up for an award in the Best Film and Best Director categories, while the nomination for editing went to Alexander Kashcheev. The aforementioned editor, who also co-wrote the film and co-created the sound design, is also in with a chance of being named Discovery of the Year. In addition to him, you can also look forward to the director and producer Klára Tasovská and producer Lukáš Kokes at the post-screening debate. The moderator will be Viktor Palák, a member of the Association of Czech Film Critics. Eva Dvořáková, the author of the original theme and dramaturgist of the film, will be a special guest.

The 15th Czech Film Critics Awards will be presented on Saturday, February 1. The gala evening will be hosted by youtuber, comedian and political commentator Jan Špaček. Czech Television will broadcast the ceremony live from 8.15 p.m. on ČT art.
