Without having known about his Jewish origins, Emil grew up with his new family as a Christian. He studied medicine, he worked at the Institute of Experimental Biology and Genetics and immigrated to the United States; Professor Dr. Emil Skamene became a renowned scientist. He was awarded by prestigious academic titles and was even nominated for the Nobel Prize. In 1993, he received a mysterious letter where he discovered that his identity is entirely different than he has thought so far. The author of the letter was Mrs. Steiger, wife of the SS officer who once saved Emil's life.
