Her Private Hell

Acclaimed Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn, the visionary behind the Pusher trilogy, Drive and The Neon Demon, returns with Her Private Hell, a hypnotic sci-fi horror odyssey blending existential drama, supernatural terror and dreamlike noir. Set in a futuristic metropolis engulfed by an unnatural mist, the story follows a young woman searching for her missing father. Her journey crosses with an American soldier trying to rescue his daughter from what he believes is Hell itself. As reality descends into nightmare, grief, guilt and desire take physical form. Her Private Hell explores how people create their own private hells through fear, obsession and loss. Inspired by Refn\'s own near-death experience, the film is his most personal work to date—a meditation on mortality, rebirth and transformation. Echoing the neon-drenched style of Drive and The Neon Demon, the film combines striking imagery, minimalist storytelling and surreal sci-fi visions with a haunting score by legendary Italian composer Pino Donaggio. Starring Sophie Thatcher, Charles Melton, Kristine Froseth and an international ensemble cast, Her Private Hell had its world premiere in the Official Selection of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, marking Nicolas Winding Refn\'s return to the Croisette.
