Hamlet: Ian McKellen

Popular British actor Ian McKellen (LORD OF THE RINGS, X-MEN) shines in a unique new take on Shakespeare's classic Hamlet.

The immortal tale of revenge and tragedy is conceived as a psychological thriller for our times. Director Sean Mathias draws on his award-winning theatre production for the Theatre Royal, Windsor, to innovatively transcend the boundaries of the stage in this cinematic take. He uses almost every room of this theatre, which is transformed from basement prison to rooftop battlements into the famous Elsinor Castle.

Ian McKellen returns to the role of Hamlet, a man who descends into madness as he seeks revenge against his uncle. The cast is rounded out by British stars of stage and screen Jonathan Hyde, Jenny Seagrove and Steven Berkoff.
