Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Scientist Dr. Henry Jekyll is intelligent and diligent, but also uptight and extremely serious about his work. When his friend, Sir George Carew, takes him to a show featuring the sensual Miss Gina, an aroused Jekyll sets out on a quest to separate man's saintly and sinful sides. His experiments succeed, and his evil alter ego, Mr. Hyde, is created. As the doctor uncontrollably alternates between Jekyll and Hyde, danger looms. Considered by many to be the first great American horror film, John S. Robertson´s Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde allowed stage legend John Barrymore to deliver his first virtuoso performance on film. Blending historic charm with grim naturalism, this version of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde is one of the more faithful of the many screen adaptations of Stevenson´s story, recounting a visionary scientist´s ill-fated attempts to unleash the human mysteries that dwell beneath the shell of the civilized self.

The projection will be enriched with musical accompaniment by a trio led by gambist Mélusine de Pas (viola da gamba, vocals), M. M. (electric guitar), Jan K. (electric bass guitar). Mélusine de Pas is an excellent gambist with a wide range of music from baroque to contemporary to experimental. The trio is completed by M.M., a stonemason and intuitive guitarist, and Jan K., an alternative project creator, lighting designer and occasional musician. The collaboration of these artists and their improvisations create an interesting and original sound structure that adds a different dimension to the film.
