Kell, a former passionate Australian musician, lives in Berlin with his partner Amelie. He is facing the closure of his music studio and is concerned about a large mark that has appeared on his thigh. An old friend and former bandmate, Joe – a man with a volatile personality – unexpectedly re-enters his life and persuades him to join him in honouring the memory of Viv, the band’s former singer. She had chosen ‘Lorelei’, the legendary, mythical cliff near her hometown on the banks of the Rhine, as her final resting place. Encouraged by Amelie, who wants him to take his mind off things, Kell sets off with Joe on an autumnal journey across the regions of Germany. Old tensions soon resurface, and Kell begins to suspect that Joe’s mood swings are not merely a reflection of grief, but perhaps also of his mental state. It is, however, a subject he is reluctant to broach.
