10:35 Kino: Anthropoid

ANTHROPOID is based on the extraordinary true story of the World War II military operation to assassinate SS Oberguppenführer Reinhard Heydrich. Heydrich was the third most important man in the Third Reich after Hitler and Himmler, the main architect of the Final Solution and the leader of the Nazi occupation forces in Czechoslovakia. The murderous and brutal reign of this man, nicknamed "The Butcher of Prague”, prompted the Allied forces in London to plan a top secret mission, code-named Operation Anthropoid, which was to go down in history forever.

The film follows the fate of two Czech Foreign Resistance soldiers, Jozef Gabčík (Cillian Murphy) and Jan Kubiš (Jamie Dornan), as they carry out a landing in their occupied homeland in December 1941. Equipped with only limited information and minimal equipment, they must figure out a way to assassinate Heydrich, a man many see as Hitler's natural successor and heir apparent, in a Nazi-occupied and closed city.

The screening will be in collaboration with the “10:35” podcast, a podcast about military and security with an overlap into international politics. The screening will be preceded by a moderated debate with historian Zdeněk Špitálník and followed by a networking session, also in the form of a debate, interviews and Q&A. The event includes refreshments in the foyer of Edison Filmhub.
