When the mustachioed brothers in the first game rescued the adorable Princess Peach from the evil giant lizard Bowser—whom they turned into a “little lizard” and a harmless pet—they thought they were done. But video game fans who know the Super Mario Bros. world well know that there are a few other characters capable of causing trouble. Take Bowser Jr., for example, who cares deeply about his dad’s fate. Besides rescuing him, he’d like to settle the score with Luigi and Mario, because no one is going to make fun of the king of the mighty Koopa clan. In short, both plumbers will have to put on their overalls again and get to work. Audiences, however, are in for endless fun filled with humor and crazy ideas, featuring familiar faces as well as new characters who didn’t make it into the first film, such as Yoshi, perhaps the cutest dinosaur in dinosaur history. The film was once again created in close collaboration between Illumination and Nintendo video game guru Shigeru Miyamoto, who created Mario. This successful duo, whose first joint film was seen by 400,000 viewers in Czech cinemas, has once again created a film that should appeal to both family audiences and older fans of his video games, who will discover in this animated adventure the treasures they grew up with.
